Bield residents get glammed up at new pamper room
Residents at a Fife care home are looking pretty as a picture after being treated to a summer make over courtesy of a local beautician.
Bield’s Gillie Court Care Home in Dunfermline held a relaxing pamper day for residents, giving them a variety of indulgent treatments to celebrate the opening of their brand new ‘Beauty Room’.
The idea for the ‘Pamper Room’ came from the Gillie Court’s residents, when they held one of their regular meetings to discuss plans for a vacant area within the development.
Both the volunteers and residents then participated in a sponsored walk which, combined with the tireless efforts of Bield’s fundraiser, Kevin Rowe, raised the funds necessary to open a room dedicated to looking absolutely fabulous.
The exciting unveiling kicked off with a champagne reception and buffet before residents were then treated to nail manicures, hair styling and massages, thanks to local beautician, and niece of one of the members of staff, Carrie Page, who volunteered her time for the event.
Gillie Court Care Home also thought it was the perfect opportunity to thank their volunteers for all their hard work this year, turning the day into a double celebration by presenting them with certificates and vouchers provided by Bield.
Evelyn Crawford, senior carer at Gillie Court, said: “The residents were absolutely thrilled to have a day dedicated to pamper treatments, and it was lovely to also have their family and friends involved in the activities.
“It is great to finally have the beauty room open as the available treatments have many therapeutic benefits for our residents, particularly massage for those who suffer from joint pain.
“It was also a great opportunity for us to thank all our dedicated volunteers. They are fantastic with all our residents and we would truly be lost without them.”
Gillie Court resident, Helen Simpson (80), said: “I had a very enjoyable day. I got my nails manicured and painted, and I loved it. I will definitely being making full use of the facilities the Pamper Room has to offer from now on.”
Gillie Court is heavily involved in the community, hosting coffee mornings fairs and open days which contribute to charitable funds such as Macmillan Cancer Support.
