Bield values volunteers in Bonnyrigg

Silver SurferA Bield in Bonnyrigg is looking for enthusiastic and friendly volunteer befrienders to help reduce isolation and increase the community involvement of their tenants.

The housing and care provider said it recognises the important role that companionship can have on improving the lives of residents by enabling them to participate in local events and become more involved in social activities.

Bield are looking for a befriender who could visit a tenant in Moorfoot Court on a regular basis, whether it be sitting in and chatting over a cup of coffee or visiting the local shops and enjoying a cuppa in a local cafe.

Shirley Queen, manager at Moorfoot Court, said: “At Bield we encourage our residents to pursue their interests and hobbies as it is central to our ‘Free to Be’ ethos but they often need a little support to be able to do this.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our service user who would like to continue her social activities within as well as out-with the development but is unable to due to health issues.

“With the assistance of a volunteer befriender this resident will be able to do the things which she enjoys, which is of course very important.”

Helping to improve tenant wellbeing, becoming a befriender is a hugely rewarding experience and as a result the befriending project has been hugely successful across many Bield developments since its launch.

If you are free weekday mornings or afternoons and enjoy socialising, we would love to hear from you. Please visit jobs.bield.co.uk and complete the online application form or alternatively contact Shirley Queen on 0131 663 2707 for further information.

Enquiries are welcome from people of all ages over 16. Full training and support will be given and out-of-pocket expenses will be paid. A minimum commitment of six months is required.

Please note that these are volunteer, unpaid positions.
