The match has been arranged to raise funds for the victims of the Grenfell Tower tragedy and will involve players from 16 to 60 and a lot of waist sizes in between.

The teams will be captained by respective chief executives, Cleland Sneddon and Alastair MacGregor.

Since the Just Giving page was set up last week nearly £2,000 has been pledged, including gift aid.

A big crowd is expected and the match will be preceded by a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for those that lost their lives and for those that have suffered in the Grenfell Tower fire.

Alastair MacGregor, ACHA’s chief executive, added: “This match has caught the imagination and we are well on our way to reaching our target of £3,000 to help the victims of Grenfell. I am really grateful to everyone on the council and the ACHA side who have helped to organise the game today, and particularly those who have got their boots on and will get stuck in.”

He added: “I am glad that we have got First Aiders of the highest quality to get us through the 90 minutes.”
