Blackwood appoints Jason MacGilp as new chief executive
Blackwood Housing and Care is set to embark on a new strategic journey, after announcing Jason MacGilp as its incoming chief executive.
The leadership transition comes as Simon Fitzpatrick departs after a two-year tenure. He will be taking on the role of chief executive at the West of Scotland Housing Association.
Simon previously served as Blackwood’s development and commercial director, where he led the creation of the award-winning Blackwood House model, now regarded as the gold standard for accessible housing in Scotland.
Julie McDowell, chair of Blackwood Housing and Care, said: “We are delighted to welcome Jason MacGilp as our new chief executive. Jason brings a wealth of experience and expertise in housing leadership, and his appointment ensures continuity and a clear strategic direction for Blackwood as we move forward.
“Simon has guided Blackwood through a challenging time for the sector. His focus and commitment to our customers, staff, and vision have been unwavering and we wish him every success for the future.”
Jason MacGilp, formerly chief executive of Cairn Housing Group, joins Blackwood with over a decade of experience leading housing organisations through periods of strategic transformation.
Reflecting on his time as CEO, Simon Fitzpatrick, said: “It has been a privilege to lead Blackwood Housing and Care and to work alongside a dedicated team.
“Together, we have navigated a challenging housing landscape and reaffirmed Blackwood’s mission to deliver independent living solutions. I look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength under Jason’s leadership.”
Jason will officially assume his role as chief executive in February 2025 with a focus on driving Blackwood’s vision of creating accessible, sustainable homes and enhancing services for residents.
He said: “I am delighted to be joining Blackwood in the New Year. Blackwood has a strong reputation of delivering accessible homes and exceptional services that empower people to live independently.
“My priority will be to build on the solid foundations that Simon and the team have established. Together we will listen to customers, and work positively with our partners to drive forward a clear business plan that ensures Blackwood remains resilient, stable, and ready to meet the challenges and opportunities of the future.”
Blackwood Housing and Care operates more than 1,500 homes across 28 local authority areas and has earned a reputation as a leader in accessible housing.
