Blackwood appoints Max Brown as new chair
Housing and care organisation Blackwood has appointed a new chair who has praised its integrated approach to transforming the lives of people with disabilities.
Max Brown, 40, from Sussex, has 12 years of experience working in health and social care and first joined the Edinburgh-headquartered organisation as a member five years ago.
His new role will see him drive forward and build on the exceptional work that Blackwood has undertaken since it was founded over 40 years ago - using pioneering technology to help those with disabilities to live independently.
He said: “The opportunity to play such an important role with such a unique housing and care provider is something I can’t wait to take on.
“It’s definitely an inspiring time to be a part of the organisation as we continue to revolutionise the sector by embracing new and innovative technologies to meet customers’ changing needs.
“I hope to see sustained growth as we build on these successes and continue to showcase the impact that an integrated approach to housing and care can have.”
Max brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Blackwood, having worked with the Scottish Government and Audit Scotland as well as across local Scottish health boards.
The launch of a collection of six highly innovative, accessible homes in Dundee was the first major milestone Max will reach in his tenure.
Supported by the Scottish Government, this development will be the first to showcase the visionary ‘Blackwood House’ which will set a new standard of supported living by combining technology and modern construction.
Max added: “We always strive to be at the forefront of the latest innovations, and bringing these accessible and affordable homes to Dundee will allow us to continue to improve and enhance the lives of those we work with.
“I first joined Blackwood as I was attracted to its drive to give people the right tools to improve their independence. I’ve learned an enormous amount in my time here so far and feel that I’ve got a huge amount more to contribute as we go forward into this new chapter.”
Fanchea Kelly, chief executive of Blackwood, said: “I’d like to congratulate Max as he takes another step with us and plays an even greater role in our organisation.
“I have no doubt that his enthusiasm and experience will prove incredibly valuable as he moves into this new position and continues his hard work to help us shape our future.”
