Blackwood welcomes Dundee planning approval
Plans by Blackwood for a housing development on a disused piece of land in Dundee have been given the green light.
CCG Scotland is now set to build 23 homes on a brownfield site off Glamis Road.
The site, which was previously occupied by a flatted development owned by Blackwood, will comprise of 17 homes large enough for families and available to buy, with the remaining six available for rent, and accommodating full wheelchair access.
The proposed units would comprise of a mix of nine four-bedroom detached houses, eight three-bedroom semi-detached houses and a ‘concept unit’ block of six two-bedroom affordable, particular needs flats.
The council backed the plans, saying that the development was suited to the site.
Simon Fitzpatrick, strategic director at Blackwood, said: “We are delighted that planning approval has been granted to allow us to proceed with our flagship development of the Blackwood House providing accessible, affordable and state of the art homes. We look forward to working with our development partner, CCG Scotland Ltd, to complete the build by early 2017.
“We would like to thank Dundee City Council for supporting this innovation, which will help us cement our commitment to growing our business in Dundee and providing integrated Housing and Care services.”
Calum Murray, director of CCG (Scotland) Ltd, added: “This is a really exciting mixed use development that once complete will offer 17 three and four bedroom homes for private sale along with a single block of 6 fully accessible flats for Blackwood Homes. We anticipate strong demand for the homes as our prospective buyers will be able to benefit from the newly re-launched Scottish Government programme, Help to Buy, as well as enhanced levels of quality and environmental efficiency.
“Glamis Road follows on from a similar development we recently completed in the Niddrie area of Edinburgh. The Schoolhouse was launched in July 2015 and is now nearly sold out.”
In its planning statement, Barham Glen Architects highlighted the benefits of the new concept homes for disabled people, saying: “Our inspiration comes from the many solutions disabled people have created for themselves, their dislike of institutional products and the change in their lives facilitated by good design. We are working closely with Dundee City Council to raise standards of design to support independent living.
“Blackwood’s branded smart technology will give customers an innovative, touch screen ‘home hub’ that will promote independent living and enhance the quality of life for residents.”
