Blue Triangle Champions League event hailed a success
The first Blue Triangle Housing Association Champions League event took place in Toryglen Regional Football Centre last week.
There were 10 teams from Blue Triangle, the remaining 6 teams were made up of Street Soccer Scotland, British Transport Police, Quarriers, Move On, Ypeople and Tesco who also provided packed lunches and water for all of our players.
Kick off was at 12pm with all teams hyped up and ready to go. Blue Triangle teams looking particularly smart in their brand new strips.
All teams gave it their all and the tournament resulted in two final matches of Renfrewshire v Move On for the Winners Plate and Street Soccer Scotland v British Transport Police for the Champions trophy.
Move On got a lead on Renfrewshire who unfortunately couldn’t get it back but didn’t stop trying, while Street Soccer went in hard against BTP resulting in an exciting final.
Time was called - Move On became the UKOS Blue Triangle Plate Winners of 2016 and Street Soccer Scotland lifted the UKOS Blue Triangle Champions Cup 2016 presented by Neil Watson of CPC Ltd with a little help from Buddy.
Ewan in Team Renfrewshire was awarded the Fair Play trophy while a unanimous vote from the refs saw Player of the Tournament going to Jamie in Street Soccer.
During the event we had an employability fair running for service users from all agencies playing, not just Blue Triangle. The companies in attendance were The Prince’s Trust, Phoenix Futures, British Gas, The Hilton Group, Tesco, University of the West of Scotland, Glasgow Kelvin College, Action for Children and the DWP.
The event was a great success which would not have been that way had it not been for the help from Street League and Digital DJ which was invaluable.
Plans are in the pipeline for a 2017 tournament.
