Burns Night celebrated at Ferguslie Park
Ferguslie Park Housing Association’s charitable subsidiary, the Tannahill Centre, held a Multicultural Food Festival to celebrate Burns Night with more than 200 people attending and enjoying food and entertainment from all around the world.
Traditional food from Africa, Poland, Romania, Scotland and Syria was all prepared by volunteers, with all of the volunteers had undergoing food hygiene training before the event thanks to Linstone Housing Association.
Entertainment consisted of Scottish and African poetry, traditional Polish and African dancing and some classic Scottish songs sung by young people. As the event drew to a close there was also some spontaneous rap and tic-toc dancing from some young people.
Jamie Mallan, business transformation manager at the Tannahill Centre, said: “We are so pleased our second Food Festival for Burns Day was such a big success with more people attending, more food available from around the world and a greater mix of entertainment and music than last year.
“People were already asking at the event when we plan on holding our next one – so I think it was a big success – and we need to thank Pachedu for making it so.”
Gregor Smart, volunteer co-ordination and project lead at Pachedu, added: “It was great seeing everyone come together in Ferguslie to celebrate a great Scottish tradition regardless of how long they have called Scotland their home.
“We would like to thank all of the volunteers for preparing the food, putting on entertainment and for contributing to the smooth running of the event on the day. This was all made possible thanks to funding from Renfrewshire Council and the kind hospitality of the Tannahill Centre.”
