Glasgow’s Kindness Project undertakes a range of efforts to help those less fortunate in the city. And one of its latest ideas is to offer a “school clothing pantry” which featured at the recent Cadder family fun day.

Led by chairperson Laura McSorley, the idea operates along the same lines as a food pantry whereby users pay a flat rate and have access to a range of items

At the fun day, parents could choose from a selection of school clothing including shoes and pay just £5 for three items.

The clothing is all brand new and the Kindness Project uses some of its funds to purchase the items.

This week Cadder Housing praised the Kindness Project for its innovative thinking in helping parents cope with the cost of paying for school uniforms.

Cadder chief executive Pamela Milne said: “While the summer holidays are about to begin for schoolkids, it won’t be long before thoughts are turning to paying for school uniform when term begins again in August.

“It is a brilliant idea to offer an initiative such as this along the lines of a food pantry but this time for clothing. Paying just £5 for three items which can include shoes proved a big hit with our residents at our recent fun day.

“School uniforms are just another thing parents have to find the money to pay for in these difficult times.

“We are deeply impressed by the work of this charity who share Cadder Housing Association’s desire to help tackle the cost of living crisis in whatever ways we can.”

The charity’s Street Team does magnificent work beyond the school clothing pantry. Among other things, it runs a pop-up soup kitchen in Glasgow’s George Square three evenings per week, helps furnish houses and supports making properties a proper home. It even offers food parcels 6 days a week.

Meanwhile, a second opportunity for parents to purchase school uniforms has been organised by Cadder and the Kindness Project. Ideally timed just before the return to school, it will take place on Friday, July 28 at Cadder community centre.
