Calvay Housing Association returns to regulatory compliance

Calvay Housing Association returns to regulatory compliance

The Scottish Housing Regulator has returned Calvay Housing Association’s regulatory status to ‘compliant’ after a series of improvements at the organisation.

Calvay’s regulatory status was changed to ‘working towards compliance’ in December 2022 as the Regulator’s assessment was that Calvay did not comply with regulatory requirements including the standards of governance and financial management, specifically standards one and six.

The following February, Calvay commissioned an independent review of its compliance with the standards. The review concluded in June 2023 and found non-compliance with standards one, three, four, five and six.

An update report in November noted the progress being made by Calvay to work towards compliance.

Now, the Regulator has said it is assured that Calvay has reached full compliance.

In an updated engagement plan for the landlord, the Regulator said: “Calvay developed a governance action plan to address the areas of non-compliance, which it has now completed and Calvay have provided us with assurance that it is now compliant with the standards.

“Calvay has recruited additional members to increase the capacity of the governing body, including the use of fixed term appointments, and has created a succession plan to ensure the ongoing viability of the governing body. We are engaging with Calvay to seek assurance on the delivery of its succession plan.

“Calvay identified failure in the render to some of its homes which will require substantial work and investment to resolve. Calvay has carried out a programme of interim repairs to address any immediate risks to tenant and resident safety. Calvay has commenced works to install cavity fill and external wall insulation to improve the quality of its homes in the longer term, which are expected to complete in July 2025. We are engaging with Calvay to seek assurance that the identified defects are addressed.”

Welcoming the announcement, a spokesperson for Calvay Housing Association told Scottish Housing News: “We are pleased to announce that Calvay Housing Association has been returned to regulatory compliance by the Scottish Housing Regulator. This achievement reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality services and adhering to the highest standards of governance and financial management.

“Our team has worked diligently to address the issues identified by the Regulator, and we have implemented robust measures to ensure we continue to meet our obligations to our tenants, stakeholders, and the wider community.

“We look forward to continuing our work to provide safe, affordable, and high-quality homes for the people we serve.”
