Cassiltoun spreads Christmas cheer to pension-age tenants
Cassiltoun Housing Association passed on some Christmas cheer this month by handing out Glasgow Loves Local vouchers worth £75 and selection boxes to 207 households who are of pension age.
The tenants were invited into the office to collect their vouchers and Cassiltoun’s Advice Team was on hand to carry out benefit checks whilst tenants had a cuppa and caught up with neighbours. This was also the perfect opportunity to assist pensioners with the uptake of Pension Credit and the Winter Fuel Payment.
One delighted tenant said: “This will help with shopping at this very expensive time of year.”
Another added: “I will use this for my gas and electricity as I use much more at this time of year.”
Cassiltoun’s chair Anna Stuart MBE said: “This is fantastic for our pension-age tenants. Some of these tenants are not on pension credit and will not qualify for the winter fuel payment.”
Anne Miller, advice team coordinator, added: “Our Advice Team provide support and assistance to those in need throughout the year. Some of those who attended to collect their voucher have not used the service before, carrying out benefit checks will ensure they are receiving all entitlements.
“In addition, we have been consulting with our tenants on services and the upcoming rent increase and again this was a perfect opportunity to discuss this with our tenants.”
