Cassiltoun wins national horticulture award
Cassiltoun Housing Association has been recognised at the inaugural Horticulture Week Custodian Awards for its Castlemilk Park project in Glasgow.
The woods of Castlemilk Park were once part of the landscape of the now demolished Castlemilk House. They are in one of Scotland’s most deprived regions and had become a no-go area, but over the past six years they have been transformed into a much-loved community asset.
The project won the Best Amenity Woodland / Forest Initiative award.
The awards were judged by an independent panel of judges including Tony Arnold, chair of the Professional Gardeners Guild, Sally Drury, technical editor of Horticulture Week, Andrew Gill, President of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture and board member of the Parks Alliance, David Lambert of the Parks Agency and Dr Sidney Sullivan, independent consultant.
Cassiltoun Housing Association’s community woodland officer, Richard Bolton collected the award at the Chelsea Physic Garden last month.
