Castlemilk community group wins Glasgow food programme award
A community initiative in Castlemilk involving Cassiltoun Housing Association and Ardenglen Housing Association has again become the recipient of Glasgow City Council’s Food Programme award.
Castlemilk Together: Community Food Action is a group of people and organisations working and living in Castlemilk which aims to work in partnership with the community and others to understand food insecurity, to challenge it and to reduce its impact.
The group also creates platforms for the voices of the community to be heard and co-ordinates, and delivers, food and nutrition activities that bring people together, based on community need.
Organisations include Urban Roots, Castlemilk Parish Church, Castlemilk Community Church, Castlemilk Community and Business Association, Women Against Austerity, NHS Health Improvement Team, parent councils and local schools.
Paddy McKenna, chair of Castlemilk Together, and community team co-ordinator with Cassiltoun Housing Association, said: “Castlemilk Together are a fantastic example of partnership working – we share solutions, resources, and work together to achieve common goals. The Glasgow City Council Food Programme Fund will allow for a range of fun activities and food provision over the school holidays and will also help us move forward with engaging with local people about what food issues matter to them and how we go about responding to these issues collectively.”
