Organised by the Glasgow School of Art, Friends of Garnethill Green Spaces and the Garenthill Community Council and funded by Glasgow City Council’s Lane Activation Fund, the fun day on May 26 brought together local organisations and residents affected by last year’s devastating fire at the art school.

Residents and visitors enjoyed a number of free activities and a variety of free food while listening to a live performance of music and drumming.

Reflecting its commitment to building a strong and supportive community within Garnethill, Charing Cross Housing Association invited gaitherin’ goers to contribute to a canvas of handprints. Residents aged from 6 months to 86 years all participated to create a canvas representing the Garnethill Community.

Youngsters, and a few not so-young, also enjoyed getting a glitter tattoo while indulging in a wee sweet treat.

Despite the changeable weather the event was a definite hit with residents and the participating organisations.

Elaine Lister, director of Charing Cross Housing Association, said “The Association very much sees itself as part of the Garnethill Community and is proud to be part of an event that was about that community and helping it move on from last year’s awful events.”
