Legendary Scottish pantomime star Grant Stott has joined forces with Marie Curie to launch its annual search for Edinburgh’s brainiest business.

The River City actor took a break from panto rehearsals at the city’s Festival Theatre to unveil details of the charity’s iconic Edinburgh Brain Game, which is set to take place at Prestonfield House on Tuesday 23 May 2024.

The yearly black-tie quiz sees businesses from across the capital put their skills and knowledge to the test to help raise vital funds for end-of-life care and support for people living with terminal illness and their loved ones.

This year’s event raised nearly £80,000 for the charity, with the city’s Voodoo Rooms claiming the top prize after numerous rounds of mind-bending questions on sport, current affairs, TV & film and music.

Next year’s quiz is set to be bigger and better than ever, with Scots actor and DJ Grant ready to take the helm as the ultimate hosts on the night.

He said: “I’m delighted to be taking on the role of host and quizmaster at next year’s Edinburgh Brain Game. Marie Curie provides phenomenal work not just in Edinburgh but right across Scotland, and I’m thrilled to be showing my support for them in this way.

“I’m a bit of a quizzer myself and judging by the list of previous questions I’ve seen, the standard of next year’s event is set to be the highest yet.

“I can’t guarantee there won’t be any evil panto villain tricks up my sleeve though - who knows, I might throw a trick question in here or there, just to keep the audience on their toes!”

The event, which is now in its third year, has previously attracted a host of high-profile guests including Gary Tank Commander actor Greg McHugh, BBC presenter Laura Miller and celebrity chef Tony Singh MBE, as well as some of the biggest names in the Edinburgh business community.

It’s largely thanks to them that our dedicated teams have been able to continue to provide care for those who need it most, and we cannot thank them enough.

“The event is such a significant night for the charity and has all the key ingredients for an amazing night – fun, entertainment and networking with a healthy dose of quizzing thrown in.

“We want to make this Brain Game the biggest one yet, and so we’re calling on businesses across Edinburgh to don their thinking caps and come and have a go!”
