Charity Spotlight: Scotia Medical Group celebrates share of £1m fund

Scotia Medical Group, based in Elgin, has received a £1,000 funding boost as part of Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards to support the vital work it does in the area.

For the sixth year running, Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards is giving away over £1 million to charities across the year and invites members of the public to nominate causes close to their hearts.

Scotia Medical Group delivers first aid training to communities and provides event medical services with volunteers who range from First Aiders to health care practitioners.

The £1,000 donation made as part of the Movement for Good Awards will directly support the charity’s training of volunteers to First Response Emergency Care level 3 (FREC3). They believe that training their volunteers to a higher first aid level will enable them to provide the best possible care to patients.

Daniel Wood, chairman of Scotia Medical Group has spoken out following the overwhelming support from the public: “Scotia Medical Group is a small charity based in the northeast of Scotland and has the aim of providing lifesaving training to members of the public. We deliver first aid training to communities and provide first class event medical services with our volunteers who range from First Aiders to health care practitioners. We are extremely grateful for the donation of £1,000 from the Benefact Group’s Movement for Good Awards. As a small charity, donations like this make a huge difference and will allow us to provide enhanced training to our amazing volunteers.”

A further 12 charities have picked up £1,000 including Dunoon Burgh Hall Trust, an inclusive organisation which works hard to improve mental wellbeing for those in Cowal, and Outfit-Moray, an outdoor learning and adventure youth charity based in Lossiemouth.

Climate and environment charity, Edinburgh Remakery, has received £5,000. The charity is an award-winning environmental social enterprise committed to diverting waste from landfill and build and promote a culture of repair and reuse.

Further winners will be revealed later in the year and residents across Scotland are encouraged to keep nominating by visiting here.

Mark Hews, group chief executive at Benefact Group, said: “We would like to thank every single person who took the time to nominate a good cause as part of our Movement for Good Awards. Benefact Group is a family of award-winning specialist financial services companies and the third largest corporate donor to charity in the UK. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do. All of our available profits go to good causes and the more the Group grows, the more the Group can give.

“We are delighted to be able to donate over £1m to good causes each year through our Movement for Good Awards and are grateful to all our supporters, including the customers of the trusted insurer, Ecclesiastical, and the responsible and sustainable asset manager, EdenTree. We know that £1,000 can make a huge difference to the incredible work that charities do and we’re looking forward to seeing how this financial boost will change lives for the better.”

Benefact Group has donated over £200m to charitable causes since 2014 and last year was recognised as the third biggest corporate giver in the UK1. The organisation aims to reach £250m in donations by 2025.

Movement for Good is funded by EIO plc, part of the Benefact Group.
