Christmas came early to Cassiltoun
Cassiltoun Housing Association has been trying to provide the people of Castlemilk with all the festivities of the season while keeping the costs to a minimum.
Since the start of December, it has run free sessions like wreath making and Santa’s Grotto as well as hosting a Holiday Craft Fair where people could buy low cost gifts and art while supporting the running of the local art group.
With materials collected from Castlemilk Park by the Castlemilk Park Volunteers, the wreath-making session was funded by Cassiltoun to make it completely free to all who attended. The session showed people how to make their own willow wreath by using stripped branches and also utilised the cuttings of holly, ivy and spruce which otherwise would have been put down to mulch. With a few bows, pins, dried fruit, cinnamon sticks, and patience, all participants left with fabulous creations ready for hanging on their front doors.
Spreading a little bit of Christmas magic, Cassiltoun’s contractors donated cash, vouchers, selection boxes and prizes for their Santa’s Grotto event. The event saw an amazing 106 presents, books and selection boxes given out to children and 15 prizes being scooped up by the adults at the free raffle table. A big thank you to Laura Edwards, Tom Atkinson, MCN, Caledonian Maintenance, Magnus, Fettes McDonald, City Technical Services, TC Young and ECG for helping to make the grotto such a success.
The Stables Studio also got into the festive spirit by hosting a Holiday Craft Fair to raise funds to help continue their sessions. The group worked tirelessly for months to prepare their creations which made the perfect gifts. Their stalls boasted the likes of paintings, diamond art, tinsel wreaths, macramé keychains, trinket bowls and handmade cards, managing to raise £160 on the night - and they are still selling.
