This year’s CIH Scotland charity golf tournament, hosted by 2014 winners Ore Valley Housing Association, took place at the Kinross Golf Club and was once again a huge success raising a grand total of £1,939.

Hosted in support of CIH Scotland’s chosen charity, the Princes Trust, teams took part from all corners of Scotland for the shotgun start Texas scramble tournament on the Bruce course. Competitors had the opportunity to network with old friends and meet new members of the housing industry in a relaxed environment.

The golf got underway in wet conditions on a pristine course that was set up perfectly for some early autumn golf however the changeable Scottish weather made for some challenging holes. The park-land course was a true test of golfing ability amid a backdrop of beech, oak and pine trees on a course peppered with five fantastic par 5s.

Play on the par 73 course flowed smoothly throughout and saw flashes of excellence from golfers with a diverse ranges of skill. On the Par 5 8th Kevin Wilson of Port of Leith Housing Association’s team ‘The Percerverers’, hit the longest drive of the competition to scoop a £50 vouchers sponsored by F3 Building Surveyors.

On the 155 yard par 3 third hole, Peter Scullion playing with PTS Plumbing saw his approach shot nestle 2 yards from the flag stick, a shot well worthy of the ‘nearest the pin’ prize, picking himself up a £50 golf voucher sponsored by F3 Building Surveyors.

With the final scores coming in, it was clear the battle for the coveted trophy was going to be very close and with a winning margin of just 0.9 strokes, Rutherglen Hackers were crowned winners for the first time. Stuart Freeland, Jim Kerr, Ronnie Cunningham and Charles Freeland all played their part in a fantastic victory for the team from Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association.

The second placed team from Everwarm could feel hard done by for missing out by such a small margin but will no doubt be a little relieved that they missed out on the duty of organising and hosting next year’s event. This ends a run of three years where the trophy has swapped hands back and forth between Ore Valley and Everwarm. Third placed were just a further 0.3 adrift with a team of steady golfers, the Cooncil Clowns from Fife Council.

After dinner presentations from Andrew Saunders of Ore Valley HA including a presentation from Lee Johnstone from the Princes Trust, who outlined some fantastic projects being undertaken in Scotland to get young apprentices from diverse backgrounds into work and become self sufficient.

CIH Scotland thanked Ore Valley HA for organising a fantastic event and Kinross Golf Club for hosting it. Participants were also thanked for their generous prizes, contributions and support of the event, including housing associations such as Link Housing Association, Cairn Housing Association, Weslo, Port of Leith HA, Kingdom Housing Association, DGHP and other organisations in the housing sector like Fife Council, Kingdom Decorators, RBS, ECDA, IT First, Alumasc, Worcester and PTS.

Raffle prizes were generously donated by Everwarm, Ideal Boilers, F3 Building Surveyors, Morrow Associates, Wellsgreen Golf Club, Worcester Bosch, PTS Stelrad Radiators, ACA Sports and Danfoss.
