City of Edinburgh Council launches survey on local housing strategy

The City of Edinburgh Council is inviting stakeholders to share their views on the draft Local Housing Strategy (LHS) which outlines the vision and priorities for housing in Edinburgh over the next five years.

The strategy aims to address current and future housing needs across all tenures to make sure the housing landscape is responsive to changing demands.

It has already been shaped by two phases of consultation from May to October 2024. Following the final round of engagement, further revisions will be made before the strategy is presented to the Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work Committee in May 2025.

The consultation period, which is open until Tuesday 22 April 2025, offers stakeholders a chance to provide feedback on various aspects of the strategy, including its vision, strategic objectives, and proposed actions. There is also an opportunity to make more general comments and suggestions.

Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work convener Lezley Marion Cameron said: “Edinburgh is currently facing a housing emergency, with rising demand for affordable homes. This Local Housing Strategy will seek to address these challenges and create a future where everyone can access homes that meet their needs - homes that are warm, safe and of high quality.

“Your input will ensure that the Local Housing Strategy is not only forward-thinking but also responsive to the issues that matter most to our residents. That’s why I’d encourage everyone to share their views during this consultation period, so we can work together to create a housing system that is inclusive and sustainable for the long term.”
