Clackmannanshire Council invests over £100,000 in summer holiday activities for low income families
Clackmannanshire Council is investing more than £100,000 to deliver targeted high quality, childcare activities for children and young people from low income families each day of the school summer holidays.
This is the most comprehensive Summer of Wellbeing programme to date, and builds on the success of last year, with all activities including food, to support households that are particularly adversely impacted by poverty.
The programme is being delivered by established local community partners and Council services. Activities include sports, arts, creative therapies, camping, gaming, outings and family events.
All schools have nominated children and young people to attend summer events and partners have also allocated spaces on events through their own contacts with families.
The programme is part of Clackmannanshire’s Family Wellbeing Partnership which is focused on improving the wellbeing and capabilities of families and young people in Clackmannanshire, working with them to support what matters to them.
The council has also released funding to provide direct payments to targeted families to self direct their summer holiday and food plans. Last year, this approach was transformative and families used the funding creatively and collaboratively to great effect.
The summer programme is increasingly inclusive and the range of activities offered for children and young people with additional support needs has been extended. A group of parents and council staff have also formed a project group - ‘Without Exception’, supported by Clackmannanshire’s Family Wellbeing Partnership to explore how best to support the out of school provision for children and young people with profound and complex needs.
Plans have been strengthened through workshops with The Lens and these intrapreneurs are working closely with PAMIS (Promoting a More Inclusive Society) to co-create a sustainable model of out of school opportunities.
