Clark Contracts appointed to Residential Construction Framework
Scotland Excel has appointed Clark Contracts to the new Scotland Excel Residential Construction Framework - a £1.5 billion housebuilding framework which was developed to help accelerate the delivery of 50,000 new affordable homes.
The framework, which will run until July 2021, with the option to extend this until 2023, is open to all 32 local authorities in Scotland and over 20 housing associations and Registered Social Landlords (RSLs).
Clark Contracts is one of several suppliers appointed to the framework following a robust two-stage restricted process.
Projects delivered through the framework will be primarily homes for social rent, although there is also scope for other forms of accommodation including mixed-use facilities, care homes, supported living, student accommodation and temporary accommodation.
The main contractor is currently on-site delivering £40 million of residential projects including the construction of 54 apartments on Bell Street in Glasgow and 46 retirement homes within Crookfur Estate in Newton Mearns.
Gordon Cunningham, managing director, Clark Contracts, said: “Having developed into the residential sector in recent years, we are delighted to be appointed to this major framework and further develop our experience in this sector.”
John Shaw, councillor and convener of Scotland Excel, said: “The £1.5bn New Build Construction framework is a major opportunity for Scotland’s councils and housing associations. The contract makes it easier for contracting authorities to engage with suppliers and deliver housing that benefits society.
“It covers all 32 council areas and supports the Scottish Government’s ambitious plans to build 50,000 new homes by 2021. The way the framework is designed means it will not only speed up the process, but it will also free up resources and finances that can be invested in employment initiatives, deliver community benefits and reduce environmental impact.”
Clark Contracts will be attending the official launch event for the framework today at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Edinburgh.
