Clarkston land sale paves way for new care home & church upgrades

A planned 50-bedroom care home in Clarkston can now proceed following the completed purchase of land at Greenbank Parish Church.

Morrison Community Care (CCG3) Holdco Ltd’s proposals for the redevelopment of land adjacent to the church on Eaglesham Road were approved in 2023.

The completion of the land purchase last week enables CCG to begin construction later this year, and the Church to move forward with proposals to create new halls and community facilities.

Dubbed as the ‘Legacy Project’, the redevelopment of Greenbank Parish Church will provide an important opportunity to enhance and extend the existing community facilities at the heart of Clarkston, while also preserving of the listed church building.

A new extension, designed to complement the existing sanctuary in scale and selection of materials, will be added to the southern part of the church building.

It will provide a welcoming, flexible space, containing a modern, south facing entrance, sports hall, multi-purpose room, meeting space, kitchen facilities and toilets, all on one accessible level.

The Church’s aim is to “create a sustainable worshipping congregation that will serve the community for generations to come”.

Care home developer Morrison Community Care Group (MCCG) has worked with the Glasgow-based construction and manufacturing group, CCG (Scotland), since 2017, setting up their joint venture company in 2021.

Since then, the firms have completed two care homes in Fife and West Lothian and have four projects under construction – delivering 234 bed spaces for the elderly - across the Central Belt.

Morrison Community Care Group manging director, Paul Sokhi, said: “In the time that it has taken to secure this land, Morrison Community Care Group has expanded into England and Ireland, whilst our joint venture with CCG has delivered a number of developments across Scotland.

“It’s been a long process for everyone involved, but the result is ultimately a positive one for the Church and the Clarkston community. Not only are we addressing localised demand for modern, residential care accommodation and alleviating pressure on our NHS, we are also helping to stimulate employment with the creation of up to 100 jobs.

“Furthermore, giving the Church the means to invest and upgrade their facilities will ensure it will continue to serve its congregation and the wider community for many years to come.

“I give thanks to the Church, East Renfrewshire Council, and the efforts of the MCCG team during this process and look forward to seeing works begin very soon.”

The ‘Greenbank Care Home’ will offer future residents 24/7 residential, nursing and dementia care services, as well as a wealth of integrated amenities including private en-suite bedrooms, dining areas, a hair salon, and cinema.

The care home will also have a specially-designed layout to mitigate the spread of viruses and effects of any future pandemics, and will be built using the CCG Group’s advanced construction methods to delivery sector-leading energy performance standards.

CCG will work alongside a design team that includes Holmes Miller, Cowal Design Consultants, Design Me, and CRGP Surveyors.

CCG managing director, David Wylie, said: “CCG has worked with MCCG for almost a decade. Through our combined development and construction capabilities, we have delivered transformative projects across the country, and we are extremely proud to now bring this collective expertise to Clarkston – a well-established community that we look forward to joining later this year.”
