Closing date set on St Andrews development site
A closing date has been set for the sale of the former Madras College site in St Andrews, which has been recommended for use as housing.
Shepherd Chartered Surveyors has set a closing date of 12 noon December 3 for the sale of Scottish comprehensive secondary school Madras College’s Kilrymont Campus.
Located a mile south of St Andrews town centre, in an established residential area of the town, the 15.5 acres site includes the ‘B’ listed Madras College buildings, comprising the 109,764 sq ft school and its 15,672 sq ft sports hall, associated car parking, playing fields and amenity space.
When initially listed for sale, Fife Council produced a guidance document for developers which recommended that the site be used for housing.
Members of the north east Fife area committee then examined the area and identified the need for affordable housing.
Ann Verner, St Andrews SNP councillor, said at the time: “While I appreciate the officers have just produced a document to explain to prospective developers the implications surrounding the development, I truly hope that any future plans include a substantial number of affordable housing, something which is definitely lacking in St Andrews.”
Jonathan Reid, a commercial partner at Shepherd’s, added: “This site has generated much interest and, consequently, we have set a closing date on its sale.
“All interested parties are encouraged to make pre application enquiries to Fife Council planning services and as such we have set the closing date to allow all interested parties the time to conduct this part of their due diligence.”
