Clovie Community Garden receives support from the Big Lottery Fund
Prospect Community Housing has received £149,541 from the Big Lottery Fund for Clovie Community Garden to build local community capacity.
The support of the Big Lottery Fund through their Community Led Activity grants, will see local residents develop the community gardens for the next 3 years.
The community based housing association, Prospect Community Housing, in Wester Hailes will work with local partner The Health Agency to deliver the Clovie Community Garden programme of activities through the innovative Wester Hailes Edible Estates initiative, with activities including ‘grow your own’ courses, community food workshops, and natural play sessions for children and young people.
Prospect’s Director Brendan Fowler said: “I am really pleased that with this grant from the Big Lottery Fund we can work with our local community on this exciting project that will strengthen local connections, enhance the environment and develop this community asset.”
Edible Estates’ Director, Greig Robertson added: “There is huge potential for greenspace around social housing estates to make a greater contribution to the health and wellbeing of residents. The Big Lottery Fund support will give the resources and time to properly establish the community garden and to broaden its impact, particularly with regards to encouraging children to make more use of local greenspace for play.”
