Clyde Valley Housing Association has completed the first stage of its transformative development on the site of the former Lanark Grammar School in Lanark.

The historic site, located on Braxfield Road and Hyndford Road, is being revitalised into a vibrant residential community featuring 39 new homes.

Developed in partnership with Wilson Developments, the first stage of this ambitious project has delivered 12 2-bedroom flats and three 3-bedroom terraced houses.

These homes represent a significant milestone in the overall development, which will also include the below to enhance the local community:

    • A new block of flats, comprising 12 modern 2-bedroom apartments.
    • Eight flats within the partially converted former Lanark Grammar school building, offering 2- and 3-bedroom layouts, with two flats specially adapted for wheelchair users.

The overall project represents a significant investment, supported by a £3,042,000 grant from the Scottish Government, contributing to the total project budget of £6,522,369.

Tenants who have already moved into their new homes in the completed flats have expressed their excitement and satisfaction. One said: “I’m excited to move into my new house. I’m lost for words, it’s beautiful.”

Another tenant remarked: “It feels amazing. It’s so nice and spacious and well finished. I can see how it’s going to come together.”

A young family is thrilled with their new start, with the parent saying: “It’s brilliant to be moving in. I’m looking forward to decorating it and making it a home. I know my daughter is going to love it too. It’s an ideal area. It’s close to the park, shops, and local transport—it has everything I need.”

Another resident added simply, “It’s so exciting. I love it.”

This development not only provides high-quality homes but also preserves and celebrates the legacy of Lanark Grammar School. The conversion of part of the historic building will pay homage to its storied past while providing modern, sustainable housing.
