Community Asset Transfer of Fenwick playing field approved

East Ayrshire Council’s Cabinet agreed this week to approve a 10-year lease of Fenwick’s King George V playing field to Fenwick Community Initiatives under the Community Asset Transfer framework.

Fenwick Community Initiatives, which is a registered charity, identified the playing field as an important site from its Community Action Plan (2020-2025). The charity has proposed an ambitious project, which will include significant development of the site to enhance health and wellbeing opportunities within the community. It has also sourced £165k of funding which will allow drainage works to take place on the pitch.

The transfer will be subject to approval being obtained from Fields in Trust given that the playing field has been designated as a King George V playing field.

Councillor Drew Filson, cabinet member for Localities and Community Wealth Building, said: “Since the Council’s Community Asset Transfer framework began, we have now agreed 72 asset transfers for community ownership or operation throughout East Ayrshire. This has helped to build community wealth and allowed resources to be invested locally.

“Fenwick Community Initiatives has a great vision for the future of the playing field and I look forward to seeing the many benefits that the local community will experience as the project moves forward.”
