Community council cash boost for clean-up
A community clean-up and crackdown on fly-tipping in Maryhill was made possible after Maryhill Housing Association helped the community council apply for funding.
Maryhill and Summerston Community Council managed the clean-up after winning £2,800 from Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Zero Waste Scotland project. The council was assisted in submitting the application by the housing association, which has close links with many community groups.
The community council was able to use some of the money to create a new website, which has a facility to allow local people to report litter in the community.
Jamie Ballantine, customer engagement manager at Maryhill Housing Association said: “This is a great example of a community council doing its bit for the local community and tackling an issue which people feel very strongly about. We are pleased to have helped the community council obtain this funding so the improvements could take place.”
Gillian Britton, chair of Maryhill and Summerston Community Council added: “Like many other areas, litter is a big problem in Maryhill and Summerston. We all have a responsibility not to drop litter or dump unwanted items illegally.
“The money from the Zero Waste Scotland project and we acknowledged Keep Scotland Beautiful help in keeping our community clean and litter-free.”
