Connect Modular engages with Penicuik students in educational initiative

Connect Modular recently visited Strathesk Primary School in Penicuik to conduct an interactive and educational session with the students.

The engagement aimed to introduce young minds to the concept of modular construction and inspire creativity in building design.

Working closely with Ian Armstrong, a principal teacher at Strathesk Primary School who leads STEM classes every week, Connect Modular and the school collaborated to create a stimulating learning experience for the students.

During the visit, the Connect Modular team presented to the students on modular construction methods, showcasing the innovation and efficiency of this approach to building. The highlight of the session was a challenge set for the students to build structures and houses using materials such as spaghetti and marshmallows, Lego, building blocks, and magna tiles.

In a gesture of support for the school’s STEM education initiatives, Connect Modular also donated offcuts from their manufacturing facility for use in the school’s STEM classroom. This contribution aims to provide hands-on learning opportunities and foster creativity among the students.

As part of the engagement, the school children were tasked with designing their dream homes, with three winners to be selected by Connect Modular. These winners will receive a special prize as a recognition of their creativity and imaginative designs.

Ian Armstrong commented: “We’re very grateful to Connect Modular for reaching out to our school and helping to provide our learners with relevant real-life contexts for learning. Our new STEM room has been a hive of activity, as classes battle it out to design the best dream home!”

Strathesk Primary School holds a special significance to Connect Modular as it is in close proximity to their ongoing affordable modular home development consisting of 12 cottage flats for Ark Housing Association. This visit not only served as an educational initiative but also strengthened the bond between Connect Modular and the local community.
