Council gives green light to affordable homes in Killearn
Planning permission in principle for a new residential development in rural Stirling has been given the green light by Stirling Council.
Members of the council’s planning and regulations panel signed off on a stage one proposal for new houses near Lampson Road in Killearn, subject to an agreement from the developer to include an allocation of affordable housing in the plans.
Members moved to approve on the condition that affordable housing is provided on site.
Panel convenor, Councillor Alasdair MacPherson, said: “The site is considered suitable for the provision of on-site affordable housing and there are no capacity issues at the local schools.
“Planning officers stated that there is a waiting list ratio of 12:1 for every social rented house in Killearn, so the Panel felt that this demonstrated an urgent need for affordable housing in Killearn and this represents an opportunity to address that need.
“We will ensure this is brought forward with the inclusion of a Section 75 Agreement and this obligation will be used to regulate the provision of land for on-site provision, or for the payment of financial contributions for off-site provision.”
