Council seeks views to tackle Orkney fuel poverty
Residents are being invited to submit their views on how to address fuel poverty on the Orkney Islands.
A consultation is underway on Orkney Islands Council’s Fuel Poverty Strategy 2017 to 2022, which has been developed in tandem with the Sustainable Energy Strategy also recently published for consultation.
Features include improving energy efficiency upgrade programmes for domestic properties, as well as maximising Orkney’s renewable energy generation to help tackle fuel poverty for residents.
Frances Troup, the council’s head of housing, homelessness and school care accommodation, said: “This is a problem facing many households in Orkney. A number of agencies have worked alongside the council and together significant efforts have been made towards tackling fuel poverty.
“The new draft strategy builds on that work and looks at how fuel poverty can be reduced and ultimately eradicated in Orkney.
“I would encourage residents, businesses and other organisations to read the draft document and provide us with feedback. All comments will be taken into account before a final version is adopted.”
