The Help to Adapt scheme encourages people to make alterations to their property now to ensure it continues to meet their future needs. The aim is to help them stay safe and maintain their quality of life in their own home.

The council’s policy lead for housing, Councillor Robin Currie, said: “The Help to Adapt Scheme enables people to stay in control and make decisions based on the full range of options available. Home adaptations are often made after an accident or a fall takes place but for some people an accident can mean not returning home at all. The take-up in Argyll and Bute has been very low thus far so I would encourage people to consider this initiative.

“This scheme can help make simple changes to your home which could help you or a family member over the age of 60 to continue doing those everyday tasks we take for granted such as using phones, getting in and out of the bath and reaching cupboards etc.”

Help to Adapt is available to everyone over the age of 60, regardless of income. The scheme allows home owners to fund these adaptations using equity in their home to secure a loan from the Scottish Government.
