Cunninghame chief executive named Third Sector Director of the Year
Cunninghame Housing Association’s chief executive, Frank Sweeney, became the first housing association chief executive to be awarded Third Sector Director of the Year at the prestigious Institute of Directors Scotland Awards last week.
Alongside his voluntary board of management, Frank has led the organisation through a period of unprecedented growth from 65 properties in 1990 to 2,300 properties today and has a turnover in excess of £11 million.
He has provided the leadership necessary for Cunninghame to diversify into areas such as community regeneration, social enterprise and homelessness support. Working closely with his voluntary board of management, Cunninghame Housing Association has leveraged £7m into the local economy.
On receiving this award, Frank said: “I am delighted to have been nominated and to have won this prestigious award in my 25th year at Cunninghame Housing Association. The Association is a dynamic and growing social enterprise that is at the centre of our communities within which we operate. This award is important in that it helps to highlight the key social enterprise role that housing association’s can deliver – if they so choose.”
Cunninghame Housing Association’s chairperson, John Steele, added: “Frank is a very worthy recipient of this award and I would, on behalf of the entire staff and Board of Management, like to congratulate him on this wonderful achievement. He is an exemplary Chief Executive who has led the Association from the front and has grown the organisation to what it is today – the Cunninghame Housing Association Group of Companies with two subsidiary companies, Cunninghame Furniture Recycling Company and Citrus Energy Ltd.”
The awards were sponsored by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and John Downie, director of public affairs, together with Kaye Adams, presented Frank with the award at the Annual Awards Dinner held in the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow.
