Cunninghame sponsors local young cyclist
Cunninghame Housing Association has presented a cheque for £1,000 to competitive cyclist Josh Stewart as part of a three-year sponsorship award.
Fourteen-year-old Josh has represented his club in Dumfries, ‘SteppingStanes Youth Cycling Team’, at numerous local and national races over the years.
This season has seen Josh take part in the British Cycling Lloyds Bank Cyclocross National Trophy Series, competing in five national level cyclocross races all over the UK. Josh was the Under 14 overall winner of the 2024/2025 British National Trophy series, and also won the bronze medal at the National Championship event in Kent. Josh was the winner of the Under 14 Scottish Cyclocross Series for the 2024/2025 season, winning the first four rounds, with one remaining race to go.
During September 2024, Josh became the Scottish Schools S1/S2 Mountain bike Champion after placing first at the race at Comrie Croft in Perth. He also competed in the Isle of Man National Youth Tour, achieving a top ten placing and winning the Carlisle Summer League. These are just a few of the competitions that Josh has taken part in performing well at all levels.
Janet Strang, chairperson at Cunninghame Housing Association, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide financial support to Josh, a young boy who quite clearly is an ambassador for his sport – demonstrating determination and commitment. Josh quite clearly works hard and is a testament to his achievements to date.”
Josh added: “It has been a great experience to compete at national level and I would like to thank Cunninghame Housing Association for the opportunity.”
