Cycle funding made available for housing associations

Housing associations are being invited to apply for grants to purchase cycles and equipment for shared use within a community.

The Cycle Share Fund is a capital grant fund inviting applications from all sorts of organisations to buy cycles and equipment to be used within a cycle share scheme.

Dr Emily Ryder from Cycling UK said: “We know that owning a bike isn’t the right option for everyone, but we want to ensure that everyone has access to a bike, so borrowing one on a short or long-term basis can be a great alternative to ownership.

“Whilst this is a capital fund, we are happy to support with operational costs associated with the purchase of cycles (for example, insurance, training, energy costs) and we will also fund storage for bikes and equipment. Additionally, we can provide access to Bike Rental Manager, a platform to help you manage your loans.”

In addition, Access Bikes funding is for organisations in Scotland that are supporting people who are struggling financially in communities hardest hit by the cost-of-living crisis. Eligible groups can apply for a grant to buy bikes and accessories for adults that they are working with who would like to get a bike and start cycling.

Cycling UK will provide support and advice including introductions to cycle suppliers, guidance on selecting bikes and accessories and help to organise cycle training for participants.

Interested organisations are asked to contact cyclinguk-cyclesharefund@cyclinguk.org or access.bikes@cyclinguk.org for more information.
