Dame Elish Angiolini delivers annual John Wheatley Lecture
Parkhead Housing Association welcomed the Rt Hon Dame Elish Angiolini DBE QC to deliver the third annual John Wheatley Lecture at a busy Parkhead Congregational Church.
The former Lord Advocate for Scotland delivered a powerful message outlining the role social housing can play to those affected by the criminal justice system and how our social services need to adapt based on the complex needs of our communities.
Dame Elish drew on her experiences of growing up in Govan and her prestigious legal career to give an enlightening and inspirational speech to members of the audience drawn from civic Scotland.
Ahead of the lecture, Dame Elish spent the afternoon with PHA, meeting prospective Oxford applicants from Notre Dame and St Andrew’s High School, housing students from the University of Stirling, and representatives from Glasgow Women’s Aid.
Parkhead chief executive Jim Strang said: “To again attract a speaker of such international stature as Dame Elish to the East End has been a remarkable achievement. Following on from Gordon Brown and Owen Jones, Dame Elish has continued to build the reputation of the lecture with her intellect, her wit and her fantastic personality. We will have a hard task finding someone to top her next year!”
