Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeen launches ‘Families First’ project
The charity Disabled Persons Housing Service Aberdeen has launched its new ‘Families First’ project which will offer information, advice and advocacy to people living with a disability and their families and carers about housing options in and around Aberdeen.
The new service will advise people on how they can access social and private housing, ownership options and shared equity schemes.
The ‘Families First’ project will allow trained staff to visit clients in their homes or in a hospital to prove help with completing housing application forms.
It will also provide advice on care support agencies including social work, occupational therapists and advice on adaptions which can be made to their property.
Jean Morrison, chairwoman of DPHS Aberdeen, told The Press and Journal: “Over the last 15 years, the organisation has built a reputation for providing housing options advice to people with disabilities living in Aberdeen city.
“More recently, there has been an increase in the amount of families who have a child or children with a disability and who are inadequately housed for the needs of the child.
“This increase has led us to establish the Families First Project.”
