Donations sought for Perth and Kinross home starter packs
Householders across Perth and Kinross are being urged to donate unwanted household items to Letham Climate Challenge, who will use them in Home Packs to support people who find themselves starting again but without the financial means to do so.
Collection points for pots, pans and frying pans in reusable condition, kitchen utensils, working kettles and toasters, clean duvets and clean towels will be in place until February 19 at the North Inch Community Campus Library, Dewars Centre on Glover Street, A K Bell Library, Letham St Marks on Rannoch Road, Letham Area Office on Marlee Road and Letham Climate Challenge on Garth Avenue. Employees of Perth & Kinross Council can also contribute to a staff-only collection point at Pullar House.
Liz Dewar of Letham Climate Challenge said: “Imagine you have had a fire at home, or a flood, or you are moving from homelessness to being housed or escaping domestic violence, you wouldn’t have much. Our Home Packs aim to give a helping hand - a few essentials to make your first few nights a little bit easier.”
Fiona McBain of Zero Waste Perth added: “If you’ve just got new household items for Christmas, or you’ve got some unwanted items tucked away and no longer used in a cupboard, then why not give them a new life by passing them on for reuse to Letham Climate Challenge for their Home Packs. This is one of many reuse projects in Perth and Kinross which helps to keep clean items that are in good condition in use for longer.”
