Dundee care homes continue to meet high standards
Dundee care homes provided a high standard of care over the past year, according to a new report set to go before councillors today.
In 2014/15, 40 per cent of grades awarded by the Care Inspectorate to private and voluntary accommodation were either excellent or very good.
The report notes that eleven homes were awarded those grades across all four themes inspected.
There are a total of 27 private and voluntary care homes across Dundee, housing 903 vulnerable people, in addition to four council-run care homes housing 122 people.
Cllr Ken Lynn, convenor of the council’s social work and health committee, said: “Our duty of care for the people that we fund and place in private and voluntary care does not simply begin and end at finding and paying for the placement.
“It is vital that we monitor the quality of care that they receive and that the council takes its place in the partnership between providers and the Care Inspectorate to ensure that the expected high standards are maintained and that there is a mechanism for continuous improvement.
“That is why I am pleased that the grades in the performance report reflect favourably, not just with previous years in Dundee but also with other providers in locations across Scotland.
“Some of the most vulnerable people in our communities who need residential care and their families can be assured that standards are being maintained and in many cases improved.”
