Dundee care team receives speech and language therapy award
The care and support team from Gowrie Care’s Tullideph service received an award from NHS Tayside for meeting the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists’ five communication standards in Dundee.
The team were presented with the award by Carole Sutherland, team leader at NHS Tayside’s Speech and Language Therapy Department, as part of their away day which was held at Hillcrest HQ in Dundee’s Technology Park.
The manager of Gowrie Care’s Tullideph service, Irene Duff, said: “It is fantastic for the team to be recognised for their efforts in striving for best practice when it comes to communicating with our service users, many of whom experience communication difficulties.
“Our service took part in a pilot project, in partnership with NHS Tayside’s Speech and Language Therapy Department, to create Gowrie Care’s Communication Best Practice Guidelines – which meet the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists’ five good communication standards.”
The Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists’ five good communication standards outline reasonable adjustments to communication that individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism should expect in specialist hospital and residential settings.
