Dundee City Council provides more flats for people experiencing homelessness
Dundee City Council has increased the supply of furnished flats to meet the rise in homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The homelessness quota in the council’s allocation policy was increased from 45% to 55% to provide more offers of accommodation for applications and the creation of 444 Housing First tenancies was above the council’s target of 33, The Courier reports.
The coordinated closure of one of the largest hostels in Dundee on Soapwork Land has also occurred and additional funding was made available to the council to help support people who were homeless throughout winter last year.
Anne Rendall, neighbourhood services convener and Coldside SNO councillor, said: “The progress being made is very encouraging. It’s right we try to rehouse anyone identifying as homeless as quickly as possible and our rapid rehousing approach helps to make that a reality.”
