Dundee development is a five star success
In a further triumph for Charleston, the service maintained its five star grade for “staffing” from the previous inspection and also upped its grade this year for “care and support”.
The high levels of satisfaction expressed by customers and health professionals who use the service was also commended in the review – alongside the skilled approach at dealing with complex situations.
Phillip Richardson Adebowale, service manager at Blackwood’s Charleston Housing Support Service, was thrilled with the Care Inspectorate report and its’ five-star review of the provision.
He said: “Both staff and customers were delighted with the score and feel it’s a great way to highlight the strong level of team work and support that exists within our services.
“We are very focused on ensuring our management team is supported and kept up-to-date with the best practices and wider developments that impact on the local service.
“All of our staff receive regular supervisions, have a high level of training and are enthusiastic and committed to the role – which makes the Charleston Support Services a fantastic and positive place to live and work.
“There is definitely a real sense of a team ethic here and we are confident that our customers know and have working relationships with staff, to such a level where they feel able to express their needs freely.”
Phillip is also continually striving to improve the service and is thankful to the Care Inspectorate for providing further key points for Charleston to work on.
He added: “We are always trying to improve our service therefore it’s great to receive feedback from the Care Inspectorate on how to do this.
“We are currently focusing on the service transitioning from paper support plans to an online model to ensure a consistent approach to recording of support plans.
Blackwood chief executive Fanchea Kelly (pictured top) was also delighted with the housing support services report.

Completed in December 2008, Charleston comprises 47 properties varying in size across five sites at Craigmount Avenue, Craigmount Road, Craigmount Terrace and South Road, Dundee.
