Dundee to decide on wall insulation project
Dundee councillors are set to approve plans on Monday to install external wall insulation on 92 properties at a cost of over £642,000.
If approved, the insulation will be installed in both council and private properties in the Lawton Road tenements by May.
Energy company SSE is managing the project while Robertson will carry out the work. Funding will come from Dundee City Council, the Energy Company Obligation scheme and the Home Energy Efficiency Programme Scotland. The project includes a client contribution for 47 tenanted properties.
Kevin Cordell, depute convener of Dundee City Council’s neighbourhood services committee, told the Evening Telegraph: “The benefits of signing up for external wall insulation are obvious, and at no cost to the tenant or home owner it’s a real no-brainer.
“Six MSPs from the economy, jobs and fair work committee recently visited Dundee to view some of the great work we have already completed in order to reduce fuel poverty.”
“It is my firm commitment that the council will continue to do all it can to make sure the people of Dundee have energy-efficient homes they can afford to heat.”
Gillian Martin MSP, a member of the economy, jobs and fair work committee, added: “I recently visited Dundee and was able to see the external wall insulation project up close and spend time with residents who have benefited from warmer homes and greatly reduced fuel bills.
“What Dundee City Council has done is a major step in combating fuel poverty and I am delighted to hear that it aims to do even more with this new investment.”
