Dundonald Street mural funded by Hillcrest Foundation revealed

The newly completed mural at Dundonald Street was unveiled last week and featured on STV news.

This project was funded by the Hillcrest Foundation to make environmental improvements in the local area.

Over the past two years young people from the Arthurstone Art Group have been involved in the design, community consultation and painting of the nature mural on Dundonald Street.

The project was delivered through partnership working between Stobswell Forum, The council’s Community Learning and Development Central Youth Team and local street artist Symon Mathieson (aka Syke).

Depute convener of children, families and communities, Roisin Smith, said: “It’s great to see local young people giving up their own time to improve their community. They have shown skill and dedication, while also highlighting the importance of environmental issues through their artwork.

“This project has been two years in the making and it’s great to be here and see the final mural, it’s something that I’m sure the local community will love and cherish.”

Hillcrest Foundation chair, Mark Percival, added: “Following the incredible public response to the initial section of mural completed on Dundee’s Dundonald Street, the Hillcrest Foundation was delighted to fund the second section of mural, completing the full art-piece.”

“Dundee’s Stobswell area has become a hotspot in the city for street art, and the young people involved in the project have delivered another outstanding, bright and meaningful creation that people can enjoy for years to come.”

“Making a positive difference to the community and people’s lives is one of the cornerstones of the Hillcrest Foundation’s aims. This mural is not only a fantastic new asset to the local community, but the project that the young people have delivered will also offer valuable skills that will serve them well for the future.”
