Dundyvan Gardens housing renovations in Coatbridge are completed
Residents at Dundyvan Gardens Older Peoples Housing in Coatbridge enjoyed some festive fun in their new look common room, which was part of £1.8 million of renovations delivered to provide a modern and homely environment for its residents and their families to enjoy.
Work included a full range of fire safety measures such as the installation of fire-doors, sprinklers and smoke detectors and environmental improvements including a new, welcoming common room and external landscaping.
The renovation has delivered a fabulous environment for tenants to experience with their families and friends, bringing a real sense of community to Dundyvan Gardens.
Residents were involved in choosing the furnishings and fabrics and have said how much they love the brighter common room and living areas thanks to the large windows which allow the sun to stream in natural daylight.
All property doors and frames were replaced with colour coded ones, a key dementia friendly measure and one that also helps the visually impaired. Additional family areas and seating were created as part of the garden landscaping to allow residents to enjoy being outdoors in the fresh air and have a change of surroundings to meet with their families. An area has also been created for tenants to charge their mobility scooters.
Councillor Heather Brannan-McVey, housing convener at North Lanarkshire Council, visited Dundyvan Gardens to take a look at the improvements and hear from the staff and residents. She said: “The results of this significant renovation project are fantastic and are already having a positive impact on the lives of our tenants.
“From the innovative safety features, new common room and hairdressing salon to the improvement of the outdoor space, it makes the environment welcoming, homely and one which I know residents are already enjoying. It was great to meet and speak to some of the residents today and I’m sure once spring arrives many will start making use of and enjoying the lovely outdoor space for a range of activities.”
The work began in January 2021 and was carried out by Ashwood Scotland Ltd.
