Dunedin Canmore staff raised £6,000 for Radio Forth’s Cash for Kids’ ‘Mission Christmas’ campaign which provides gifts and grants for 14,000 disadvantaged young people in Edinburgh.

Cash for Kids raised £11 million nationally last year and all the money raised in the Radio Forth area is spent in Edinburgh, the Lothians and Fife with many grants going to children and young people in Dunedin Canmore’s own communities.

Ian Robertson, Radio Forth’s corporate fundraising manager, said: “The money raised by Dunedin Canmore will go to hundreds of underprivileged kids who might not have had much to smile about this Christmas.

“The public are always very generous at this time of year and donate large amounts of presents for the kids.

“But there are 14,000 children we need to make sure have a present on Christmas morning - and we’ll be spending another £10,000 on gifts on top of what the public donate to us.”

Harry Woodward, tenant participation officer at Dunedin Canmore, said: “It’s fantastic to see the money we raised going to such a good cause.

“The Mission Christmas campaign means kids from our communities will be amongst those who are guaranteed a present on Christmas morning.”

Dunedin Canmore staff raised the £6,000 through charity events including a Christmas raffle and a 60-mile bike ride between Edinburgh and Glasgow. A team of staff also took on the Total Warrior challenge at the Balgone Estate just outside the capital.

Ewan Fraser, Dunedin Canmore chief executive, added: “Cash for Kids is a great charity that benefits many people in our communities and we’ve supported them for a number of years.

“We’re delighted to have raised such a significant amount to help with the Mission Christmas campaign.”
