Edinburgh short term lets appeals dismissed
Three appeals challenging a City of Edinburgh Council policy to take enforcement action when properties are being misused as short term lets have been dismissed by the Scottish Government.
The cases all centred around alleged breaches of planning control involving the material change of use of properties from residential dwelling to short stay commercial visitor accommodation.
Welcoming the decisions, Cllr Kate Campbell, housing and economy convener, said: “This is a welcome decision from the Scottish Government as it supports our planning policy and the work we’re doing to tackle the misuse of properties as short term lets.
“We know that short term lets are causing serious issues for communities and impacting on the number of homes available in the city.
“We’re also working in collaboration with the Scottish Government on a licensing regime so that we can really get to grips with the problem. And we’re investigating a number of short term let cases across the city at the moment. Anyone who is concerned about how a property is being used should contact our planning enforcement team.”
