This project was made possible by funding from the B&Q Foundation and volunteers from the Galashiels branch of B&Q, working with Eildon’s volunteering project Eildon Makes a Difference.

With a number of large raised beds, planned and planted with different areas including a sensory garden and other areas to attract bees and birds, this is a great opportunity for the new community to come together and grow.

The B&Q Foundation have also contributed funding for a community art project at the garden, and over the next few weeks Eildon will be working with local artist Joy Parker and kids from the local community to create some artwork to make the area their own.

Lita McHale, Eildon’s community engagement officer, said: “We were thrilled when we heard that B&Q were going to help us set up this new garden, but nothing prepared us for just how helpful the staff from the local branch would be!

“The team worked tirelessly for a full day, truly transforming the raised beds into a beautiful garden for residents to use and enjoy. I also want to thank our local repairs contractor R3, who kindly donated their time to clear and dispose of the garden waste from the day – it was a proper partnership effort.”

This is just one project being undertaken by Eildon’s new Community Partnership Team. The team was set up to work with local and national partners who share its values, looking to alleviate the impacts of fuel poverty, food poverty, social isolation and to generally focus its efforts on improving the situations of its customers and the wider community in the Borders.
