Eildon wins planning appeal for Galashiels development
An appeal decision by the Scottish Government will unlock major investment in new homes for Galashiels, Eildon Housing Association has said.
The Association, working with Hart Builders, will now take forward plans for the creation of 69 new high-quality sustainable and affordable homes at Coopersknowe.
Eildon already had planning approval for 58 homes at the long derelict site and sought revised planning approval to increase the number of homes to 69.
This application was initially rejected by Scottish Borders Council, but a reporter appointed by the Scottish Government has overturned this decision following an appeal.
Welcoming the decision, a spokesperson from Eildon Housing Association said: “We hope to start work shortly to deliver plans for a mix of family houses, maisonettes, bungalows and flats. Six of the bungalows will be fully wheelchair accessible.
“As well as regenerating this site and creating jobs and income for the Borders economy, this development will help to address acute affordable housing need in the area.”
The project is due for completion in the spring of 2022.
