A newly-launched community sports hub in Govan is off to a flying start with a £1,000 cash windfall thanks to Elderpark Housing Association.

The new Park Villa Community Sports Hub – formerly the Glasgow Club Drumoyne - opened its doors this summer. Now Elderpark Housing and one of its suppliers, social housing surveying business CX-Feedback, have together donated £1,000 to help make the new venture a success.

Both organisations say the cash boost is part of their ongoing commitment to help communities thrive.

Park Villa Football Development Club has a long and impressive history of promoting the sport in Govan for a remarkable 25 years. Park Villa has taken over the running of the club under what’s known as the People Make Glasgow Communities programme, a scheme which allows residents, community groups and other organisations to have a greater involvement in the management of local venues.

It is seen as a valuable way of empowering communities to be at the heart of delivering services in a way local people want.

The facility has a 3G floodlit pitch, three grass pitches suitable for football and rugby, a four-court sports hall and dance studio/fitness studios which are also suitable for sports like boxing. It was built in 2010 as part of the Drumoyne Campus which also includes Pirie Park Primary School.

Gary Dalziel, chief executive of Elderpark Housing, said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with our supplier CX-Feedback to deliver this donation to the important work of Park Villa and wish them well in their new endeavour with the hub.”

Johnathan Briggs, chief executive of CX-Feedback, added: “Park Villa’s enthusiastic vision for taking over the running of Glasgow Club Drumoyne is to be commended as it builds on its impressive track record of football development. We are passionate about helping support the communities that our customers serve.”

Jonathan Giddings Reid, community regeneration officer at Elderpark, commented: “Park Villa Community Sports Hub is a worthy recipient of this financial donation. The hub is off to a flying start and we encourage local people to make use of this important community asset.”

Tracey McGilp of Park Villa added: “We can’t thank Elderpark Housing and CX-Feedback enough. As we embark on this new venture the money has already been put to good use and the community is the undoubted beneficiary.”

While Park Villa’s long-standing mission is the promotion of football the hub offers other sports and wellbeing opportunities such as a gym, boxing, dance, skating, badminton and yoga
