Elderpark serves up family fun day in Govan
Elderpark Housing helped serve up a sizzler of summer fun for the local community in Govan this week.
Teaming up with the “Govan Community Project”, it delivered a family fun day at the Govan Salvation Army hall.
Families flocked to the event which offered everything from games to face painting and from free giveaways to a visit by a life-sized Minion!
Free fruit was on offer courtesy of “Dig In” – a community greengrocer based in Govan. CoMoUk – the national organisation for shared transport - were represented and came to talk about active travel while outdoor play experts “Thrive Outdoors – Inspiring Scotland” focused on all things play.
Elderpark Housing and the Govan Community Project work strongly together to promote community wellbeing and togetherness. The Govan Community Project supports the diverse communities in the Greater Govan area. Its purpose is to achieve social justice by building a strong community based on equality, mutual respect, support, and integration.
Elderpark’s community regeneration officer, Jonathan Giddings-Reid, said: “We were deeply impressed by the turnout of local families keen to participate in a family fun day.
“There was something for everyone and the kids had a ball. It is another example of Elderpark Housing and the Govan Community Project working together for the good of the community.”
Further family-focused events are planned as the summer draws to a close. The community garden known as Ibrox Flower Field – also supported by Elderpark - is hosting an open day on Saturday 31 August.
On Saturday 7 September the new Govan to Partick bridge will open with local festivities planned.
